Houghton Lake Fishing and Hunting Report - By Wes Morris

We went from 90 degree weather right in to 50 degree weather. Sure feels like fall. Some leaves are falling. The Sept. fishing has been good. We had a group of fishermen in last week and they caught a lot of slab Bluegills. See picture. Some bass and a few keeper Walleye also. The lake level is down; lower than I have seen in years.
I drew a bear tag this year and my first hunt starts tomorrow...

We went from 90 degree weather right in to 50 degree weather. Sure feels like fall. Some leaves are falling. The Sept. fishing has been good. We had a group of fishermen in last week and they caught a lot of slab Bluegills. See picture. Some bass and a few keeper Walleye also. The lake level is down; lower than I have seen in years.
I drew a bear tag this year and my first hunt starts tomorrow. My baits have not been hit well. I have heard this from others as well. The hot weather this summer has put a lot of berries and acorns in the woods. The bears prefer the natural food over the bait if they can get it. I am hoping a couple good frosts will kill the natural food and get the bears coming to bait.
Bow deer season also starts in a couple weeks. Time to be scouting and practicing.
There are still left over licenses for doe deer and fall turkey.
